The OBD Hardwire Kit VP04 is a practical solution for powering your dashcam, but it has some differences compared to other models like the VP01. When using the VP04 Hardwire Kit, the dashcam does not enter parking mode when your vehicle's ignition is turned off. This is because the VP04 kit is unable to detect the ignition status, unlike the VP01 Hardwire Kit.
The VP01 Hardwire Kit is specifically designed to monitor the ignition status. It connects to the ignition positive (ACC) and battery positive. This allows the dashcam to recognize whether the engine is running or not. When the ACC signal is no longer available, the dashcam switches to parking mode to conserve the vehicle's battery and optimize power consumption.
In contrast, the OBD Hardwire Kit VP04 ensures that the dashcam is continuously powered, regardless of the ignition status. This means that the dashcam automatically switches to parking mode after 5 minutes if no motion is detected during that time.
If you park your car on a busy street, the VP04 Hardwire Kit may not perform optimally in certain situations. In this case, the dashcam will never switch to parking mode, as it continues recording as long as vehicles pass by. The recording will continue until either no motion is detected for 5 minutes or the voltage drops below the set shutdown voltage.
The OBD Hardwire Kit VP04 is an excellent solution for the permanent power supply of your dashcam; however, it operates differently compared to hardwire kits like the VP01. It is important to understand these differences to effectively use the dashcam, especially when parking in high-traffic areas.
